When God, beer, and crazy meet

it begins with a simple hello

Hey friend,

You know that feeling when you meet someone new, and you just know they’re going to bring a little bit of drama into your life?

Well, I had one of those encounters recently, and, as life would have it, it turned into quite the story.

Honestly, all I could think of afterward was that country song lyric: “God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy.”

Let me set the scene.

It was an ordinary day—well, as ordinary as it gets around here.

I was going through my regular routine: just trying to make it through the weekend without any curveballs.

But, as it often happens, life had other plans.

I meet a lady, someone who, at first glance, seemed harmless enough.

You know the type—nice, chatty, just your average person.

I thought, “Great, a new friend, or at the very least, someone I could talk to when they were around.”

Well, I should’ve known better.

Because, in a twist of fate that only I could manage, things escalated quickly.

I won’t get into the specifics (to protect everyone, of course), but let’s just say, what started as a friendly interaction soon turned into a whirlwind of drama that no one could have predicted.

One day, we’re making small talk about the weather and what kind of week we’re having, and the next day, it’s like we’ve been swept into an episode of a soap opera.

There were misunderstandings, emotions running high, some yelling done from the other and plenty of moments where I was left scratching my head, wondering how I ended up here.

It was one of those situations where, halfway through, I caught myself thinking, “Is this real life? How did I get from point A to point Crazy in the blink of an eye?”

It had gotten so bad I had to go to a priest about the whole situation, to help protect the innocent in this.

And in the middle of it all, that line from the song kept running through my head on repeat: “God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy.”

It was like a soundtrack for the madness.

If there was ever a time for a cold drink and a prayer for patience, this was it.

But you know what?

As chaotic and ridiculous as it all was, something strange happened.

I started to see how this wild, unexpected encounter was one of those moments that can point you back to something bigger.

I know, I know, it sounds dramatic, but stick with me.

Sometimes, life throws these people and situations at you—situations that make no sense, that leave you frustrated and eventually, hopefully, laughing at the absurdity of it all.

And while you're in the thick of it, you're just trying to survive, trying to figure out how to navigate the craziness.

But once the dust settles, you look back and realize that, in a weird way, it was all part of the plan.

These moments—these people—as much as they drive you crazy, can also remind you that life is full of surprises and that you're not the one in control.

It’s like that lyric, “God is great.” It’s so simple, but it’s true.

In the midst of our everyday busyness, in between the chaos and the calm, God is always there, quietly steering the ship, even when we don’t realize it.

Sometimes, it’s in the most unexpected places—like an encounter with a person who turns your life upside down for a minute—that we get reminded of that.

This has been one of those reminders for me.

As ridiculous as the whole situation was, it made me take a step back and remember that there’s a bigger picture.

We get so caught up in our plans—what we’re going to do tomorrow, what needs to be done today, who we need to talk to, what tasks need to be checked off.

But then life throws in a wild card, and suddenly, your well-organized schedule gets flipped on its head.

And what do you do?

You laugh, you cry (maybe both), and eventually, you realize that God’s still in control, even when it feels like everything is spiraling.

And the "beer is good" part?

Well, that’s just a reminder to lighten up sometimes, to not take everything so seriously.

When you’re knee-deep in drama that doesn’t make sense, sometimes the best thing you can do is sit down, take a breather, and realize that it’s not the end of the world.

It might feel like it in the moment, but you’ll look back and laugh.

Trust me, I’m already starting to see the humor in it now.

Sometimes you just need to enjoy the little things—a cold drink, a sunset, or the sound of silence after a day of non-stop noise.

As for the "people are crazy" part?

Well, isn’t that the truth?

People are crazy.

We’re all a little crazy in our own way, me most of all, just ask my husband and boys.

That’s what makes life interesting, right?

We bump into each other, we create a little chaos, we throw a wrench into each other’s plans, and somehow, in the middle of all the craziness, we grow.

We learn to be more patient, more forgiving, more understanding.

We learn to roll with the punches and trust that there’s a reason for it all.

We learn to lean on God more.

So, that’s been my life lately.

A little bit of drama, a little bit of reflection, and a whole lot of “people are crazy.”

But through it all, I’ve been reminded that no matter how chaotic things get, God is still great, and He’s still got a plan.

Even if that plan includes crossing paths with some unforgettable characters along the way.

I hope your week has been a little less crazy than mine.

And if not, I highly recommend playing that country song on repeat, it’s become my theme song for life lately.

Take care, and let’s catch up soon—preferably over a cold drink!

Cheers,

Melissa

P.S. Sure, beer is good and all, but I’d choose a nice glass of wine any day! After all, it pairs better with drama—and it helps me forget why people are crazy in the first place! 🍷
