Turbulent Travels

what else could go wrong?

My husband and our boys decided to take the RV on a summer road trip, starting with a few days in Galveston.

We were all excited to spend some time by the beach, but as soon as we got there, Hurricane Alberto decided to crash our vacation.

The winds picked up, the rain started pouring, and suddenly our beachfront spot didn’t seem so great.

We hunkered down inside the RV, listening to the storm rage outside.

The boys tried to stay entertained with games and books, but it was hard to ignore the sound of the wind howling and the rain hammering the roof.

After Alberto passed, we packed up and headed north towards Dallas, thinking we’d finally get some sunshine.

We thought we’d finally catch a break, but things didn’t go as smoothly as we hoped.

We met up with a family member who’d had knee surgery a couple of years ago.

She insisted on joining us for hikes and exploring the park, even though it was clear she could barely walk.

We spent a lot of time standing around, waiting for her to catch up while the boys grew restless.

Every time we’d start moving, we’d have to stop again after a few steps.

It turned what should have been a fun week into an exercise in patience.

We tried to make the best of it, but it wasn’t quite the adventure we’d planned.

When it was time to leave Dallas, we thought our troubles were behind us.

But as soon as we were ready to hit the road, the jacks wouldn’t come up.

We were stuck, the RV refusing to budge.

We called a mechanic, who managed to get the jacks up so we could at least travel home.

But the fix was temporary.

We had to spend the next couple of days waiting on parts and getting the jacks properly repaired before we could continue our journey.

But our troubles weren’t over yet.

Not long after we left Dallas, the generator decided it had had enough.

With no power to run the AC, the RV quickly turned into a rolling sauna.

The temperature inside shot up to 90 degrees, and there wasn’t much we could do about it.

The boys were miserable, and so were we. But we powered through, determined to get home.

Once we finally made it back, and both the generator and jacks were fixed, we decided to head to Brazos Bend for a change of scenery.

But wouldn’t you know it, Hurricane Beryl had other plans.

The storm started moving in faster than expected, our stay was cut short and decided to head west toward San Antonio and Austin, hoping to outrun the bad weather.

We managed to enjoy a few more weeks of summer, making the most of the remaining time off and spending quality time together while helping around our church.

After all that, we finally got everything fixed and settled in at the campground we’ll be calling home for the school year.

It’s nice to have a stable spot after all the chaos.

We’re looking forward to some quieter days ahead and maybe even some smoother road trips in the future.

I hope everything’s going well on your end. Let’s catch up soon!

P.S. Amidst all the chaos, my husband landed a contract to teach dual credit Algebra 2 at a high school right across the street from where some of the boys go to college.

P.P.S. I'm making major updates to my planners this fall and need to clear out some inventory. If you're interested in a simple planner (no tabs) at a clearance price of $20 with free shipping, just let me know. You can check out some examples here or here. I do have many layout options, most not shown on either site, so just let me know if you are looking for something different.
