Honoring the Holy Relics
A Week of Connection with the Saints
Dear Faithful Mama,
This week, we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Relics on November 5. This sacred day invites us to reflect on the saints who have gone before us, their holy lives, and the relics that connect us tangibly to their presence and intercession. These relics serve as a powerful reminder of our shared faith and our own call to live with courage, humility, and devotion, just as they did.
Rosary Meditation: New Beginnings with the Saints
As you meditate on the Rosary this week, focus on the 1st decade of each set of mysteries, contemplating the beginnings and transitions that the saints experienced and how they trusted God through every moment.
- Joyful Mysteries (Monday & Thursday):
The Annunciation invites us to reflect on Mary’s “yes” to God, opening the door for Christ to enter our world. As we honor the saints and relics this week, consider how you can say “yes” to God’s will in your life, trusting in His plan and calling.
- Sorrowful Mysteries (Tuesday & Friday):
The Agony in the Garden reveals Christ’s acceptance of His journey of suffering for us. In this mystery, we’re reminded of the strength to be found in surrender. As you pray, ask the saints to intercede for you in your trials, that you may endure challenges with the grace and courage that they displayed.
- Glorious Mysteries (Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday):
The Resurrection celebrates Christ’s triumph over death and the hope of eternal life. Through relics, we honor the lives of the saints who now rejoice with Christ. Reflect on how the resurrection calls each of us to live with hope, knowing that Heaven is our ultimate home.
These mysteries remind us of the saints’ courage and perseverance. As you pray, let their lives inspire you to live with purpose, trusting in God’s will for you and your family.
Family Activities: Bringing the Feast of the Holy Relics into Your Home
Here are a few ways to bring the spirit of the Feast of the Holy Relics into your home and draw closer to the saints:
- Learn About Relics and Your Family’s Patron Saints: Spend some time this week learning about relics and the saints who inspire your family. Look up the story behind a favorite saint’s relic or a local church that may display a relic. Talk as a family about how their virtues inspire each of you in unique ways.
- Saint Card Shrine or Altar: Create a small area in your home with saint cards, holy images, or statues to honor the saints. Consider lighting a candle in their memory and praying a short prayer each day this week, asking for their intercession for your family’s needs.
- Write Letters to Your Favorite Saints: Encourage your children to write or draw something as a “letter” to their favorite saints. They can share things they admire, prayers they want to offer, or simply ask for guidance in a specific area. This activity is a creative way for children to connect with the saints and grow in their love for our heavenly family.
These activities help us feel connected to the saints, reminding us that they stand beside us, interceding and encouraging us on our journey of faith.
Saint Spotlight: Feast of the Holy Relics
The Feast of the Holy Relics honors all saints and holy men and women whose relics we venerate. From fragments of their bones to personal items, relics are sacred signs of God’s work through His holy people. This week, take a moment to reflect on a saint or relic that has impacted you personally, and ask for their help in growing closer to God.
Dear Mama, as we celebrate this special feast, may you find strength and peace in knowing that you have countless saints in Heaven interceding for you. Just as they dedicated their lives to Christ, let their example inspire you to live each day with purpose and love.
In Christ and Our Blessed Mother,
Melissa
