Gratitude, St. Andrew, and Advent Begin

Discover how Thanksgiving and Advent prepare our hearts for Christ.

Dear Friend,

As we approach the end of November, this week offers a beautiful convergence of gratitude, devotion, and preparation. With Thanksgiving on Thursday, the Feast of St. Andrew the Apostle on Saturday, and the beginning of Advent on Sunday, it’s a time to pause, give thanks, and prepare our hearts for Christ.

Rosary Meditation: Gratitude and Anticipation in the Mysteries

This week, as you pray the 3rd decade of each mystery, let the themes of gratitude and anticipation shape your meditations.

  • Joyful Mysteries (Monday & Thursday):
The Nativity reminds us of the gift of Christ’s birth, the ultimate reason for our gratitude. Reflect on the blessings in your life and offer thanks to God for His providence and mercy.

  • Sorrowful Mysteries (Tuesday & Friday):
The Crowning with Thorns shows Christ’s humility in the face of suffering. In your prayers, consider moments of struggle and ask for the grace to find gratitude even in trials, knowing they bring us closer to Him.

  • Glorious Mysteries (Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday):
The Descent of the Holy Spirit calls us to prepare for the coming of Christ. As Advent begins, invite the Holy Spirit to guide your family through this season of waiting and hope, filling your hearts with joy and peace.

These mysteries remind us that gratitude and anticipation go hand in hand as we await the coming of our Savior.

Family Activities: Gratitude and Advent Preparation

Here are some meaningful ways to bring Thanksgiving, St. Andrew, and Advent into your family’s week:

  • Gratitude Journal:
As a family, write down one thing you’re thankful for each day this week. On Thanksgiving, read them aloud and offer a prayer of thanks for God’s blessings.

  • St. Andrew’s Novena:
Begin the St. Andrew Christmas Novena on November 30. Traditionally prayed 15 times a day until Christmas, this novena prepares our hearts for the birth of Christ with its beautiful prayer:
“Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born...”

  • Advent Wreath Blessing:
On December 1, the first Sunday of Advent, gather around your Advent wreath to light the first candle and say a simple blessing. This tradition helps focus your family on Christ as the Light of the World during this season of waiting.

These activities help your family embrace gratitude and enter Advent with joyful anticipation.

Saint Spotlight: St. Andrew the Apostle

St. Andrew, the first-called of Christ’s apostles, exemplifies a life of immediate faith and commitment. He shared the good news of Jesus with his brother, Peter, and dedicated his life to spreading the Gospel. As we celebrate his feast day on November 30, ask for St. Andrew’s intercession to deepen your trust in God and to share His love boldly with others.

As we give thanks, honor St. Andrew, and begin Advent, may your heart be filled with gratitude and hope. Let this week of transitions lead your family closer to Christ, who is the greatest gift of all.

In Christ and Our Blessed Mother,
Melissa

Quote for Reflection:
"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
