Decisions, decisions, decisions

Two are easy, one I don't know yet

As many of you know, almost 2 years ago I went back to college.

My previous degree is a Master’s in Mathematics from 2004, with the Bachelor’s in 2001.

I was struggling to find a job because of changes to teaching in my state of Texas, they now required a teaching degree to teach, which I don’t have, and the fact that my degree is THAT old.

This led me to a choice on what I want to do, what I could do realistically and where I saw myself in the future.

The decision was to get an AAS in Application Development so that I could do programing for both apps and the web.

Including this semester, I will have taken 11 classes adding up to 40 credit hours completed, plus transfer credits from my first degree, so looks like 197 credit hours, just insane to see that!

Transfer credits were a blessing, because why retake an algebra course when I can teach it, right?

This leaves me with 2 classes left, but one is not being offered in the Spring this brings up the first decision; take one in the spring and take the other in the fall next year or just take both next fall?

With homeschooling, classes, running a business, all the volunteering I do at church, I just need a small break and made the easy choice to take a semester off!!

Second decision is do I even continue with this degree?

The two classes left are Devops (not offered in the Spring) and a Capstone project.

Devops will basically use what I just did in Adv Web, so no real learning, and the Capstone class will be a coding project of some kind, which I am going to do this on my own anyways this Spring.

I am looking to apply to a web development company in January, and will see if they hire me, so do I really need the degree, is it worth the 2 classes for that paper, if I get the job can I use that for the Capstone class, etc.

This leaves this decision up in the air for now.

The third decision just came in a few hours ago, to retake a final exam for this semester.

I am not trying to brag here, but this is my only class that is not an A for this second degree.

My first degree I was more like a 3.0 student, but I was young and didn’t worry too much.

This time, I am taking 100 and 200 level courses, where I have had 500 and 600 level for the math, making this time much easier as far as learning goes.

Plus, a math degree has a lot of logic in it, and that is really what coding is, learning the language then using logic to build the code.

This course, Cloud Computing, though was not as easy for me and I ended up with a 75 on the final and the current final grade at an 86.

But he is letting us retake it because he said 120 minutes, but had the timer run out after 40 minutes (yeah, rushed exam).

Plus, he is keeping the higher grade!!!

So, here is to taking yet another final exam when I thought I was finished for the semester.

Not totally sure what’s next, but I’m feeling good about the skills I’ve picked up, and I have thoughts on what I am going to do, but a slower pace in life will be welcomed!

As a BIG thanks to everyone who’s had my back at some point on this roller coaster I call life, I want to offer a big discount on my planners for this weekend only!!!

First let me retake that exam tonight, then I will set up a discount code to make the planners $30, plus shipping (if you are not local).

Here’s to whatever comes next and prayers for that selfish A 😁 , however I will happily take the B too,

Melissa

P.S. I will get that discount code out later tonight or tomorrow for the $30 planner, plus shipping (or free pick up) so keep an eye out!! Plus, next week I promise to get back to the regular weekly emails.

P.P.S. I have some ideas for what I want to do starting January, like online meetings to help everyone actually plan and use whatever planner they have. Plus looking at starting a YouTube from those meetings. If you have any thoughts or want me to try to do something specific, please just reply and let me know.
